Well at least having a location will encourage those closer to you to get in touch.

Have you purchased your tools yet or are you still wondering what to invest in? What type of work do you want to do and have you any prior experience?

Feel free to ask questions if you have any - I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

You should be able to PM if need be.

Roger

Hi again Rodger,For the past 20 years I have engraved hardwood signs (bar and house types) freehand with a router( V point bit 12mm) -Business successful! For this I developed my own font. I have always had an interest in copperplate script penmanship and can now do signs in this script -freehand routed, not for the fainthearted! I would like to pursue this script as well as monogrammes and illuminated letters in metal but only in small jewellery size. Only as a hobby at this stage.

I think I need Lindsay air graver Artisan with foot control and regulator for compressor . Alternatively should I consider palm control with co2 (cost is a factor)

I have checked GRSTools and decided against.

I really appreciate your help with this. what is your interest in engraving?
Kind rgds John

John,

I only have experience with Steve's Classic with foot control and this has served me well. There are countless threads in the main body of the forum with comparisons between the different models but I think the Artisan will probably be OK for you. Amazing work can be done with the Artisan in the right hands. Many use it for heavy cutting but there is no reason that it can't do fine stuff as well. Try using the Search function above.

You might want to introduce yourself and post a couple of photos of the router work that you have done - they really are a friendly bunch with wide interests.

Just saw your last question - I have been a jeweller for the past 35+ years and wanted to extend my skills a little. I do some jewellery engraving but not on a large scale. As far as the jewellery making is concerned - I have been edging away from the bench for a few years now but still make things that I have an interest in doing.

Keep in touch,
Roger
