This is a Colt I just finished - in fact I showed a few photos of the gun at the end of my Tutorial Contest entry (Budweiser Browning) to demonstrate the wire technique I used for each of the inlays.

The Engraving "Theme" is The Historic Col. Colt. It includes a portrait of Col. Sam. Colt on the recoil shield, a inlay of the Colt Dome on the loading gate, a gold inlay of Sam Colt's signature on the back strap, the Doulble Colt logo from the early history of the Hartford Factory, and a inlay of the Rampant Colt from the Colt Family Crest, circa. 1840-60.

I'll be showing this gun at the upcoming Colt Collectors Show in Houston, Texas (October 3-5).

Beautiful Mike. I think your engraving tutorial should have done much better in an engraving forum ... but then again who knows, I think that voting system was based on some sort of Chinese arithmetic algorithm.

Mike,
Beautiful job! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Have you considered putting some scrimshaw on the handles? Maybe KatherinePlummer could help you do something as tastful on them as the rest of your work on it. Then again it might be too much; it's pretty fine like it is (imho)!

These grips were a pair of mammoth ivories that were sent to me by my client. I also suggested some scrim, but he wanted them left just the way they were.

I could think of a variety beautiful scrim subjects that would have worked here!
