Mike made a super video about how to hold and engrave a large object while engraving it. He is engraving a tray with a large script letter, with the PalmControl AirGraver. The video is split into two parts. First part he lays out the letter and second part he engraves it.

Welcome to YouTube, Very nice video!!! Like the turntable and adding the thrust bearing. Bar Matt works great as an alternative to a towel, non slip and still protects fragile objects.

Thanks for the kind comments! Please uderstand that I know much more about hand engraving than I do producing videos!

I acted as my own Director and camera operator, so there are many areas of the video that could have been edited out in favor of a shorter and more direct lesson. I went on to finish the letter by adding wriggle cuts and making it match the first tray exactly...but there was simply not enough time to squeeze the entire lesson into You Tube.

Hi Mike,
You really did a great job here, great instruction and great video, it was really informative and I really appreciate your effort.
I was, however, really looking forward to the part where you did the wriggling. I wanted to see how you varied the width of the wriggling to fit in the script lines. I do a lot of western engraving which uses wriggling for the spines of the scrolls, but there the width is constant.

I simply placed the wriggle cuts side-by-side to fill in the open space. I hope to produce the video to a higher level and include more abut the wriggle cuts. It was an important step to finishing the impact of the letter, so it's unfortunate that it was left out.

Mike…I agree with the many who are thankful for the video instruction. I have my first set of hand gravers, and the least expensive of all I can start with. I spent as much time checking out all the fun stuff on your bench as I did watching process. It seems like the tool count amongst craftsman is usually comparable. For the engraver it all fits on a bench. For woodworker or machinist it takes a large shop to have the needed space for the tools.

It takes a lot of time too put together even a simple video and posting it for all to see. Until your paid better take compfort in thought that your work is appreciated by 100 folks for every one that post a comment.

JP, the video does not even begin to show the extent of Mike's tools. It shows only 10% or 15% of the bench space in one of his two studios. Mike has all the tools and can use, and teach the use of, all of them
