Default Quenching gravers

I have searched but could not find out if it is OK to quench M42 gravers. I know not to quench the Carbalt.

Hi Gail.

How are your gravers heating up? Or perhaps a better question, how come your gravers are heating up? My gravers never get much above room temp... neither during sharpening nor when I use them.

Hi Gail, Wouldn't matter... I generally try not and get them hot. If grinding, I monitor with fingers close to tip and when hot dip in water. M42 can should be able to take quite a bit of heat before it starts to anneal (soften). Here is a an old thread about them.http://www.engravingforum.com/showthread.php?t=11616
