Wel deserved Barry. It is a beauty.
The white leaves on the slide, is that the slide it self or did you inlay platinum or another white metal in there?

In my opinion this was not only the best Pistol at the show, but also the best engraved gun overall. Once again, Barry has captured a unique and fresh style in the structure of the arabesque designs he has developed for this and other pieces he is doing. The pattern is embodied not only on the steel, but it flows to the grips as well - and while this is not the first time an engraver flowed an engravng pattern to the grips, it's certainly the first time it's been flowed onto on mother-of-pearl in gold...it's an eye feast

What he did'nt tell you about this gun is that he started the engraving many years ago. It's been sitting on his bench unfinished until he was recently inspired to finish it. It's apparent that this style of work has been growing in his mind for a good number of years.

Thanks folks, and Chris, maybe I could find an Oscar on ebay , and engrave it!
Mike, I think you were the first to bring it to my attention that I was actually cutting a new pattern, how my work had changed unintentionally, evolving during the drawing and redrawing again and again, of the inductive tesselated layouts.
As to the pearl, well, that grew out of Steve Lindsay encouraging me to do something new on pearl, and I guess I did.
Thanks Mike, that is high praise coming from "Mr. Colt"

Barry gave a very generous seminar in Reno.

It was very well prepared, and nicely set in a historical context, we are talking about the ' three element leaf ', and he took us from the Pyramids to modern times.

We had class participation when he was covering his other important topic... inductive as apposed to deductive design. The DVD from FEGA will be a good one for our reference library.

Mike D, nice to read your generous post, I was thrilled to see your work up close! Yes, Barry's pistol, and yours got a lot of well deserved attention! Probably true that Barry's gold leafed Lindsay Palm was the hit tool of the show, and appeared to be handled by hundreds! Barry was very tool neutral, using Ray's Ngraver in a little demo, while we passed his golden Lindsay Palm around. Sitting at the bench for his seminar where Diane had been using GRS handpieces, Barry took his Palm, touched it lightly to the GRS handpiece and said, "Look, they don't even spark when they touch?" Nice light hearted touch, Barry!

Congratulations Barry on a well deserved award. What a beauty.

I so admired your gold leafed Lindsay Palm. I suspect you may have started something here. I look forward to hopefully seeing other members pics of their decorated Palm's

I have read so many of your posts & tutorials on this site since I have joined, Its getting hard to sleep at nights, my brain is so active with all the info that I am taking in. Your work is way beyond what I think I could ever hope to achieve.

I have to commend Steve and all you guys on this great site that so freely give away information to us newbie's. Looking at my past experience's here in the UK finding out engraving techniques, it would have been easier to find out more information on the workings of the Masonic lodge.

Thanks folks, and Rod, Thank you for your well stated comments.
I do believe in tolerance and diversity in tool selection,( espescially at a seminar where the point is creative philosophy and design ) , and I do like Ray's Ngraver tool, it is the only electric handpiece worth using. I have friends at all the tool companies, but make no mistake, I am not neutral in tools in regards to my own preferences in pnumatic handpieces.

If we are discussing pedal controlled Air tools, I prefer my Lindsay Artisan, and if we are discussing palm control devices, the Lindsay PC is way ahead of the competition in every respect.
I used the latest version of the Airtact "sweet spot" air handpiece at a recent show, and frankly, if there is a sweet spot, I could not find it. It is heavy, requires two air tubes, an air compressor( it won't work on bottled air), a big heavy electro/pnumatic control box to make it work, and it is difficult to control compared to the Lindsay PC.
I am currently vacationing in California, visiting friends and associates, I have a couple of small air bottles and my Lindsay PC with me, and I drop in to friends licensed gun shops and setup in 10 min or so and " Make bank" right on the spot. A few hours later, I break down in a few moments,it goes back in the trunk, and I am on the road.
Operating in this fashion, I have made thousands of dollars since the Reno show, while on vacation.
This would be virtually impossible with the competitions products.

If simplicity of function, use, and design is the definition of elegance, the Lindsay PC is the most elegant engraving tool ever made.

Yes, I am enjoying my Palm, and no question, if you are packin' iron on the road, the Palm with a gas bottle, Lindsay hand sharpening templates and strops, and some north facing daylight is a great toolkit, and very lean on air!

Barry if you get within striking distance of Mendocino on your Californian sojourn, come see your old haunts once more, you might enjoy my shop, and I have a place to lay your head, a few string instrumenst to play, and some good harmonizers?

best

Rod
