Default Ray Cover's School of Engraving

Hello all, Just wanted to mention that I just got back from Ray Cover Jr.'s school, and it was absolutely amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to engrave, or just learn to engrave better. I was trying to engrave on my own, and I had no idea that most of what I was doing, I was doing incorrectly. My plates from Ray's class are far beyond anything I had done before. My improvement is monumental, and you can see (day by day) your skills improve. There's nothing like hand's on training, and Ray is a great guy with lots of patience who is willing to answer any questions you may have. We had a small class with a great bunch of guys, and I thank all of them for making this a GREAT experience. I'm in with both feet now, and can't wait to hone my skills further.

Heres my plates, the class was GREAT! Watch out for Dave hes gonna be one of the top engravers, his art work is outstanding. Doug is already doing some beautiful stuff, hes learned from some of the best. Me I'm just starting (the learning part) and look forward to my next classes with some of the other renowned teachers on this site. Criticisms are gladly accepted so, let me have it.

Hi Dave and Isaac, Sounds like a great time. Ray is a super person, teacher and engraver! Good job on the plate Isaac. From the plate I can tell Ray is teaching it all... because on the plate I see a little of everthing... scroll, shading, gold inlay of lines and sheet as well as bulino.

Ray, if you see this thread, did you get some pictures of the class you can post?

I have to agree that Ray is an outstanding teacher. I think these classes are necessary for getting out of the hole quickly and up and running with lots of motivation. The Bonus is you may walk away with some life long friends also.

Wow, you guys are going to make my head swell

We do have a good time in class. I am extremely glad you guys are happy with your experience here.

below I have a pic with Dave's plate with the frog Issac mentioned. These guys busted they're butts that week and we had some time left on Friday so we played with a bit of bulino. I also have pics of the guys working and group pic.

You can't tell it by the group pic but we really did have a lot of fun that week. They were wore out int he pic. I worked them pretty hard that week

Ray, that looks like a pretty rough crew you had there but the results speak for themselves. Dave, Doug and Isaac - I'd show up and hour early sometimes and wouldn't leave till Ray just about kicked me out. That kind of enthusiasm had not happened to me in 30 years of technical training. I have a good idea what kind of week you had. Good luck

I can second everything said about Ray, I took his beginners class this past summer and he helped me tremendously! I really want to go back and take the Bulino class he offers also.
